The L115 Sniper rifle is one of two bolt action sniper rifles. It has the higher damage of the two sniper rifles. However, its accuracy, range, fire rate and mobility are all slightly lower than the other sniper rifle. The L115 is good at both long range and close quarters using a quickscoping setup.

L115 Best Strategy
If you are looking for a sniper to quickscope with, which is essentially getting close to enemies and quickly zooming in and out to get kills, the USR is better in terms of stats but I found that I preferred the L115. The L115’s advantage is that it kills with one shot from the knee up and has lower recoil.
Use the outskirts of the map to avoid encountering enemies up close. Find parts of the map that overlook a large part of the map, in particular areas of high traffic.

Armor-Piercing is almost key for using the L115 because it increases the damage of the L115. The Variable Zoom Lens allows you to see enemies at long distances more easily and makes medium range more manageable by giving you the option of lower zoom.
Use perks that increase your mobility and reduce the handling time of the L115. Ready Up brings up the L115 faster letting you scope in quickly if you encounter an enemy whilst changing position. Sleight of Hand reduces the reload time of the L115 so that enemies can’t get away from you if you run out of rounds in the magazine. Agility lets you change position more quickly reducing the chance of being caught in the open. Quickdraw lets you zoom in more quickly so you can keep an eye on a large area of the map whilst zoomed out and quickly take out an enemy that you spot.
In summary the L115 can be used both at long range and quickscoping. However, the USR has stats that better suit quickscoping. Use Armor Piercing, the Variable Zoom Lens and selected perks to increase your mobility and to reduce the handling time of the L115.

Armor-Piercing does not increase damage. Instead, it allows walls to be more easily penetrated. If you’re shooting through a wall, the damage you do through the wall will be slightly increased if you have Armor-Piercing.
The stats screen in game shows an increase in damage.
The stats have said the same thing for FMJ and the like for previous CoD titles. Damage is not increased, unless it penetrates some sort of material before hitting the target.
