Whichever approach you choose the outcome of the mission will be the same.
The freighter approach involves some sniping and putting bombs all over the freighter. A little later you have to drive a submarine to pick up an item.
The offshore approach involves flying a submarine to the ocean with a helicopter and picking up an item with the submarine. You will also have to defend the helicopter from some enemies.

Ok my problem is at the end when playing as frank. While im shooting at the attacking choppers the cargo bob starts descending and crashes and I gotta switch to mike to stabilize it, But while im doing that I become sitting duck and start taking heavy fire eventually blowing up.
FOR ALL THOSE STUCK AFTER THE FREIGHTER HEIST:
Sit low and switch from Trevor to Michael or Franklin, and wait for the next mission, I suggest Michael, because then you get a call from martin for a mission, and after that you go and steal cars for Devin. So I’d go and shoot around or get your flying up on Franklin which really helps in certain mission.
Is there a way to replay the mission so that you DO get paid? The same thing happened to me…no cash once the mission was over.

I’m standing on the sub and i can’t get in….

My game won’t let me get into the sub, I got it down and hopped in the water, say to climb on it to enter, and I’m standing on top of it, no entry…

how do i pick up the damn sub when im in the hellicopter
Hover closely over it until the hook touches the top of the submarine.
You have to press the right direction button to release the hook, then use L3 to lower the hook. Then fly over the sub at the good height. It will hook up automaticly
since that heist went to crap. what do I do now???

Both the devices are on the bottom of the sea.
You will see a red light at the bottom of the ocean, all you have to do is tap the sub against it and get back to the surface.

I just sat back and picked them off before advancing, charging in head on to the army did not work for me, nor did speeding in and rushing the heli. Be warned tho, they do respawn after a bit (1-2 mins) so once you kill them you have to advance before they flank you
i just drove as fast as i could with a bulletproof vest on
I took a moving truck sized vehicle, there is one corner near the helicopter where you can park the truck climb on top and jump the wall. Then just run to the helicopter jump in and fly away. You take a few hits, but it’s only a 5 second run to the copter.
I took a cab, once the cab drove me to the base, I hijacked it and drove it right to the heli and I was out. Just make sure U have a full bar of health. (Once u past the guard gate, take the first left.)
NOTE: I found out that sometime taking a taxi isnt always a good thing when doing missions You might not get 100% gold for completion…but sometimes i refuse to drive for 3 long minutes. lol. Hop on a cab and press (X) and u’re there.
bash the front gate with a sports car i suggest so its fast and find the chopper and get in it fast
There are two gates for the base.I suggest you to use the gate at the back since its the nearest to the chooper.Ignore the cops and drive to the chopper.Fly it back to the Air Base since the military helicopter doesnt do much harm to us.U have to do this all quick

From the context of the ending of the heist, Lester made it clear you’re going to have to dump the thing after stealing it either way. Damn shame you lose the 20 million from the heist.
